Small-Group Homeschool Classes for Teens

During the 2023-24 school year, I will be teaching a series of academically rigorous small group classes for teen homeschoolers. This is the seventh year I am offering these classes, and the last six years have been wildly successful! Many of my students have gone on to Renaissance High School, Miller School of Albemarle, and PVCC. Renaissance School has said that my students are among the academically strongest and best prepared of all of their incoming freshmen students each year.

These classes will be offered in person at my home in Charlottesville, with an option to zoom in occasionally in case of illness or other circumstances.

These classes meet for the full academic year, with each subject meeting one day per week for two hours. Students should expect around 2-3 hours of homework for each subject each week. Math meets for a single hour. I am offering a small group for Algebra 1 this year, and do offer individual math tutoring on a limited basis. I offer an academically challenging curriculum, directed at 7th-8th grade students, with support for students to develop their learning habits and styles and room to make mistakes.

Students are welcome to take these classes “a la carte”, choosing any subjects that would be useful to them, but each subject represents a full-year commitment. During the 2023-24 school year, I will not be offering science, but my mother Nancy Rosen, an experienced teacher, may be offering psychology for teens through CHEC homeschool cooperative on Mondays.
